Public Liability Insurance For a Carpenter
♫ June 4th, 2010 2:32 amPublic liability insurance is a type of insurance that you should be fully aware of if you are a tradesman of any description as you probably would have been asked to get this insurance before you were able to do your job or before you were able to be a sub contractor for any company that may want you to do some work on their behalf. Many people who are not that familiar with this type of insurance may be wondering why you would need this type of insurance if you were a tradesmen or someone that went into other peoples properties to undertake their work. Well the main point of this insurance is to protect the holder from any case of third party property damage or third party injury that they may cause whilst they are doing their work.
If you are a carpenter then you may need to get Public Liability Insurance so that when you go into other peoples properties then you are fully covered and although this is not a legally compulsory insurance it is something that more and more people are insisting that workmen must have. The things that it can cover are for example if a carpenter goes in to the property and was to knock over a vase or an ornament then they would be held liable for the cost of repair or replacement and if they were to leave their tools lying around and someone was to fall over them and injure themselves then they would hold the carpenter liable for their injuries which is where the insurance would come in to play.
There are three main levels of public liability insurance cover that you can get which starts at the basic one million pounds worth of cover and can be increased to go to either two million or five million pounds. This limit is the most that the insurance company will pay out in the instant of any claim, which is why most people feel that the basic cover will be sufficient as it will have to be a very rare circumstance where tradesmen can cause over a million pounds worth of damage. You can get a basic insurance premium from around about £57 for the yearly price which is for the one million pounds public liability insurance and the price would obviously increase if you either wanted a higher amount of cover or if you wanted anything extra added on to the policy such as tools cover or even hired in or own plant cover which can generally be added on to a public liability insurance policy.
